RAM and SSD storage are configurable up to 32GB and 512GB respectively. The Nitro 5 is priced at $799 and will be available in April. Lastly Acer’s updated the Spin 3, which gets eighth-generation Intel Core processors. Acer has also shrunk down the display from a 15.6-inch panel to a 14-inch 1080p display for a smaller overall form factor, as the name suggests “Spin” can still rotate around to convert into a tablet. Acer hasn’t released a full spec sheet yet, but the laptop may be priced at $599 and will be available in February.

McAfee reports that several organisations associated to Olympics had received the malicious email, mainly groups affiliated with ice hockey. Hackers have already begun targeting the Pyeongchang Olympic Games with malware-infected emails which may be aimed at stealing passwords or financial information, researchers have said.
The security firm McAfee said in a report that several organisations associated with the Olympics had received the malicious email with the primary target being groups affiliated with ice hockey. "The majority of these organizations (targeted) had some association with the Olympics, either in providing infrastructure or in a supporting role," the McAfee report said. "The attackers appear to be casting a wide net with this campaign." In the attacks, which began as early as December 22, emails were "spoofed" to make them appear to come from South Korea's National Counter-Terrorism Center, which was in the process of conducting antiterror drills in the region in preparation for the Games. McAfee said the emails came in fact from an address in Singapore, and instructed the readers to open a text document in Korean. The document was titled "Organized by Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Pyeongchang Winter Olympics," according to the report. The malware in some cases was hidden in text, and later in an image -- a technique known as steganography, according to McAfee. "Based on our analysis, this implant establishes an encrypted channel to the attacker's server, likely giving the attacker the ability to execute commands on the victim's machine and to install additional malware," McAfee said. McAfee said it expects more attacks of this nature, echoing warnings last year from University of California researchers of increasing targeting of sporting events. "With the upcoming Olympics, we expect to see an increase in cyberattacks using Olympics-related themes," the McAfee report said. "In similar past cases, the victims were targeted for their passwords and financial information." LG claims that the new projector is almost half the size of its 4K rivals and crowned its 4K UHD model as "affordable yet premium device." LG has unveiled a new projector — the HU80KA ahead of CES 2018. The new 4K UHD model is the first such projector which is said to deliver ultra-sharp video. The company claims that the device is almost half the size of its 4K rivals in the market. While most 4K projectors currently in the market are heavy and expensive, the company crowned its 4K UHD projector as an "affordable yet premium device." With the new 4K UHD projector, the company claims that it can create a 150-inch screen at 2,500 lumens that make it the brightest projector from the company until yet. The model also supports HDR content for a cinematic experience in the home. Apart from the 4K resolution, the company also offers HDR video support with HDR10. LG says projector's portability and upright design have been credited to the mirrorless L-shaped engine which allows the projector to be placed on the floor, mounted on the wall.
The LG HU80KA model comes equipped with standard connectivity options such as USB, Ethernet and HDMI ports, as well as wireless support for external devices such as a keyboard and mouse. The model comes packed with two 7-watt speakers in the projector and can be connected to external speakers or soundbars. The South Korean giant has not yet revealed the price and other details regarding the HU80KA projector. LG will put the whole 2018 projector on display at the LG Booth in the Las Vegas. Besides, the company latest version of MiniBeam Projector — PF50K will also be showcased at CES 2018. The affected devices include notebooks and mobile workstations which were shipped during December 2015 to December 2017. HP has announced a worldwide recall and replacement program for 50,000 faulty lithium-ion batteries. The affected devices include notebooks and mobile workstations which were shipped during December 2015 to December 2017. This sudden recall is issued due to the danger of fire and overheating problems.
According United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, “HP has received eight reports of battery packs overheating, melting, or charring, including three reports of property damage totalling $4,500 with one report of a minor injury involving a first degree burn to the hand.” The affected devices include ProBook (64x G2 and G3 series, 65x G2 and G3 series), ZBook (17 G3, 17 G4, and "Studio" G3), x360 310 G2, Pavilion x360, Envy m6 models. For all these affected devices, HP is proving a battery replacement service by an authorised certified technician at zero cost since most of these batteries are non-removable. The post also suggests."Consumers should immediately visit www.HP.com/go/batteryprogram2018 to see if their battery is included in the recall and for instructions on how to enable “Battery Safety Mode” if their battery is included in the recall.” The company is also offering a BIOS update which can place the battery in "Battery Safe Mode" so that device can use the battery safely by connecting to an HP power adapter. The Battery Safe Mode is applicable to only those products that are affected by this recall. Sources believe that the reduced price cannot labelled ‘discounted’ as compared to thr other phone batteries in the market. Apple recently came up with a battery replacement program, which reduces the price of iPhone battery repairs from around $79 to $29 after it was accused of deliberately slowing down its older devices.
According to a report of The Investor, an official battery manufacturer has reportedly revealed that Apple charges twice as much as Samsung for battery repairs. The source also claims that the former overcharges its customers even though the technology and the complexity of the process is almost the same. The battery manufacturer was quoted saying, “All flagship phones from Samsung, LG and Apple have the most advanced batteries in the market. There is no reason for the price difference. Battery replacement for an iPhone may be trickier considering its use of unique parts like black pouch and tape. Still, it is difficult to understand why the cost is so high.” The report also quoted an official of a smartphone manufacturer who said, “Apple is saying they are reducing the price for consumers but the price is never a discount considering parts and labor costs.” The iPhone batteries are known to have a smaller capacity than those used in the flagship phones which Samsung has. iPhone 7, which is the latest model under the replacement program, features a 1,960 mAh battery unit, while in contrast, Samsung’s Galaxy S8 comes with a 3,000 mAh battery. While Apple hasn’t commented on the cost of a battery replacement, and with the program being underway, the customers are allowed to request the repairs at the discounted price in any Apple Store. After a bunch of leaks and rumours, HMD Global has now formally announced the Nokia 6 (2018) as its first smartphone of the new year. The new Nokia smartphone is the successor to the last year's Nokia 6 and is debuting in China. Details about its global rollout are yet to emerge. However, the smartphone is quite likely to go on sale in India following the initial availability in the Chinese market. China's Suning has started taking pre-orders for the Nokia 6 (2018), and its sale will begin starting January 10. The 32GB Nokia 6 (2018) variant will be available with a price tag of CNY 1,499 (roughly Rs. 14,600), whereas its 64GB variant will come at CNY 1,699 (approximately Rs. 16,600). Both the variants will come in Black and Silver colour options.
Nokia 6 (2018) specifications, featuresUnlike the original Nokia 6 model that was launched back in January last year with a front-facing fingerprint scanner, the Nokia 6 (2018) features a fingerprint scanner on the back. The new smartphone has also dropped the capacitive keys that were available on alongside the frontal fingerprint scanner on the previous Nokia handset. The Finnish manufacturer has apparently chosen on-screen navigation to make the interface of the new Nokia 6 closer to stock Android UI. The decision is conspicuous as it has maintained a 16:9 display aspect ratio, and not used a 18:9 aspect ratio that was the primary cause of other manufacturers ditching front fingerprint scanners and hardware capacitive buttons. Further, the Nokia 6 (2018) has a metal unibody build that is made of 6000 series aluminium. The dual-SIM (Nano) Nokia 6 (2018) runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. The handset is also expected to receive an update to Android 8.0 Oreo sometime in the future. But the company hasn't so far provided any official details on the latest Android update. On the display part, the Nokia 6 (2018) features a 5.5-inch IPS display with a full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC, which is clocked at 2.2GHz, coupled with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. Also, the internal storage of the new Nokia 6 is upgradable via microSD card slot (up to 128GB) in a hybrid dual-SIM configuration. HMD Global has provided a 16-megapixel rear camera sensor on the Nokia 6 (2018) with dual-tone LED flash and PDAF lens that has f/2.0 aperture. Similarly, an 8-megapixel camera is available on the front with an f/2.0, 84-degree wide-angle lens. The smartphone also supports the company's proprietary Dual-Sight technology that allows you to capture simultaneous shots from the rear and front camera sensors to create a Bothie. In terms of connectivity, the smartphone has FM radio, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth v5, GPS/ A-GPS, USB Type-C, and 3.5mm audio jack. Besides, the Nokia 6 (2018) packs a 3000mAh battery that supports fast charging technology. It measures 148.8x75.8x8.6mm and weighs 172 grams. Jio will cut the prices of its plans with 1GB data per day by up to Rs. 60 as part of a new Happy New Year 2018 offer, a source close to the matter has informed Gadgets 360. This will bring down the base price of Jio plans with 1GB data per day to Rs. 149, down from the current Rs. 199. Interestingly, this move will nullify the tariff revision implemented by the operator in October. Apart from this price cut, Jio will also launch a host of plans with 1.5GB data per day as part of the exercise. These changes will come into effect on Tuesday, January 9 and the first of many such announcements to come.
Starting Tuesday, the Rs. 199, Rs. 399, Rs. 459 and Rs. 499 Jio plans will cost Rs. 149, Rs. 349, Rs. 399 and Rs. 449, respectively. Details of the plans, such as the data allocation, calling, and SMS benefits as well as access to free apps, will remain the same as before. These are the price points of the 1GB data per day plan, meaning consumers are essentially getting 50 percent more data at roughly the same price. The move will come into effect just days before the ongoing Jio promotion with cashback and vouchers of up to Rs. 3,300 ends. The operator has 160 million users across the country, and has been dictating market terms since its launch. In the past few weeks, operators have started offering more data without raising prices on certain popular recharge packs, so this move can be seen as a means to keep Jio users from moving to other networks. An Android malware is reportedly targeting over 232 banking apps including a few banks in India. The Trojan malware, named 'Android.banker.A9480', is designed to steal personal data from users, Quick Heal Security Labs reports. Similar to other banking malware, this one also sneaks into login data, SMS, contact lists and uploads them to a malicious server. Additionally, apart from the banking apps, this Trojan also targets cryptocurrency apps present on a user's phone.
Quick Heal lists the Indian banking apps that are targeted by the Android banking Trojan malware: Axis mobile, HDFC Bank MobileBanking, SBI Anywhere Personal, HDFC Bank MobileBanking LITE, iMobile by ICICI Bank, IDBI Bank GO Mobile+, Abhay by IDBI Bank Ltd, IDBI Bank GO Mobile, IDBI Bank mPassbook, Baroda mPassbook, Union Bank Mobile Banking, and Union Bank Commercial Clients. Android.banker.A9480 malware gets circulated via a fake Flash Player app on third-party stores, Quick Heal said. The Flash Player app is a popular target for cybercriminals due to its prevalence. Once users download the malicious application, they get several prompts to activate administrative rights. The app sends numerous pop-ups to victims until the administrative privileges are activated, the report added. Once the app is installed on a smartphone, the icon gets hidden when the user taps on it. The malicious app keeps working in the background while checking for one of the 232 banking apps. Further, if the app finds one of the targeted apps, it sends a fake notification that resembles the banking app. When users open the notification, they get a fake login window that is then used by the attackers to extract confidential data like login ID and password. As per the blog posted by Quick Heal, the malware can process commands like sending and collecting SMS, upload contact list and location, display fake notification, accessibility and GPS permission, and more. Since the malware can intercept incoming and outgoing SMS from an infected smartphone, it is also able to bypass the OTP based two-factor authentication on the user's bank account. |
