Industry grapevine is that director Siva is trying hard to convince Anirudh to come on board. On November 23, it was officially announced that Ajith will once again team up with director Siva for his upcoming project, titled Viswasam. After Vivegam, this film would mark the fourth collaboration of the duo. In December, the team had a formal pooja along with the technicians and members of the production house, Sathyajyothi Films.
A few weeks back, it was confirmed that Yuvan Shankar Raja has been roped in as the music director for Viswasam, touted to be a rural-based entertainer. However, Yuvan has now backed out of the project, due to unknown reasons. A source close to the composer reveals that he was in talks with director Siva and Sathyajyothi Films. Another source tells that director Siva is considering Anirudh Ravichander and other music directors to compose for Viswasam. The team is also on the lookout for a suitable heroine for this village-based flick. Earlier, the team was in talks with Anushka Shetty for the same, but it looks like she hasn't signed the project. The shooting of Viswasam is slated to commence sometime in January 2018 and is scheduled to release for Diwali 2018. Ajith has ditched his salt-and-pepper look and has had his hair coloured black for his role in the movie. The technical team of Viswasam includes cinematographer Vetri and editor Antony Ruben.
With an elephant standing right behind him, Rana Daggubati appears with a cropped hair cut and looks rugged.
Rana Daggubati has been very selective about the roles he plays in his films and this has earned him a huge fan base.
Having had a successful 2017 with three of his films, The Ghazi Attack, Baahubali: the Conclusion and Nene Raju Nene Mantri turning out to be big hits, the star ventured into the New Year with the release of the first look of his upcoming movie Haathi Mere Saathi. He had earlier said that this film would be about the conservation of elephants and the first look makes it clear. With an elephant standing right behind him, Rana Daggubati appears with a cropped hair cut and looks rugged. It looks like he plays a mahout in the film. On the release of the first look of Haathi Meri Saathi, he wrote on Twitter, “Entering the new year with a great new story to tell. Introducing #Bandev from #HaathiMereSaathi #HaathiMereSaathiFL.” “And now It’s officially another year!! Happy New Year!! Let’s make each day count!! Best wishes. And for the one’s who missed here’s #Bandev form #HaathiMereSaathi,” he later tweeted.
In an interview to TNIE, he said, "There's a very exciting physical language to the character I'm playing in 'Haathi Mere Saathi', something entirely different from what I've done in the past. I've always wanted to be a part of content that can travel across the country, and am very happy that Trinity is backing cinema of this genre.”
Prabhu Solomon, who had directed critically acclaimed films such as Mynaa, Kumki and Kayal, is wielding the megaphone for this venture. The film will be shot extensively in Thailand and various locations in India. To be released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, Haathi Meri Saathi is touted to hit the screens for Diwali this year. Incidentally, this will be the first time he is directing a multi-lingual. It may be mentioned here that director Prabhu Solomon had directed Kumkiearlier and this film also dealt with elephants. On making films on the massive creatures, he has said that elephants are both magnificent and intelligent and humans can take cue from them.
The film, tentatively titled Suriya 36, could be a revived version of Selvaraghavan’s own film Kaan, which was shelved for unknown reasons.
Ahead of the release of his film Thaana Serntha Kootam, Suriya on Monday commenced work on his next yet-untitled Tamil outing with filmmaker Selvaraghavan. Tentatively titled Suriya 36, the film marks the first collaboration of Suriya and Selvaraghavan.
While not much is known about the genre of the film or the subject it might deal with, we have learnt from reliable sources that the film could be a revived version of Selvaraghavan’s own film Kaan, which was shelved for unknown reasons. In 2016, Kaan was launched with Simbu in the lead and the makers even shot briefly, before dropping the project without clarification. An official announcement from the makers regarding these reports which have been doing the rounds since last week is still awaited.
The combination of Suriya and Selvaraghavan has already set the anticipation bar high and audiences are eagerly looking forward to the film. While Rakul Preet Singh was originally considered for the leading lady’s role, the makers last week confirmed that Sai Pallavi will play the lead. Even though it was originally believed to be a two-heroine subject and both the heroines were to be paired with Suriya, it has now been clarified that it’ll only feature one heroine. To be produced by Dream Warrior Pictures, the film has been confirmed to release for Diwali this year. It was recently revealed that Suriya’s project won’t be a simple film and it requires a lot of research. Selva, in an interview earlier this year, revealed that he had plans to work with Suriya soon after Kadhal Kondein, and the dream has been finally fulfilled after a decade. Suriya, it is believed, after Selva’s project might team up with Gautham Menon. According to reliable sources, Gautham and Suriya had planned to work together soon after Singam 3; however, due to a prior commitment to Vignesh Shivan, he had to start working on Thaana Serntha Kootam, which is gearing up for release for Pongal 2018. Atlee is presently working on the script of the film Director Atlee, who shot to limelight with his debut flick Raja Rani, starring Arya and Nayanthara in the lead roles, then went on to direct Theri and Mersal with Vijay. Soon after his latest release Mersal, there were reports that the director would go on to direct Vijay again. But according to latest reports, Atlee’s film with Vijay may not commence anytime soon.
Further, there have been rumors of the director roping in the Baahubali star Prabhas for his next. Enquiries about his next revealed that Atlee is busy with the scripting work and will be completing it in a couple of months. He will be finalizing the hero for the film only after completing the scripting work. Mersal, released for Diwali this year, was made on a budget of Rs. 120 crore and it collected over Rs. 250 crores worldwide. Incidentally, the film was co-written by KV Vijayendra Prasad, who had penned the story for the smash hit movie Baahubali: the Beginning and Baahubali: the Conclusion. Produced by N. Ramasamy, Hema Rukmani, R. Mahendran and H. Murali under the banner Thenandal Studio Limited, Mersal starred a bevy of actors including Vijay, Samantha, Nithya Menon, S. J. Surya, Kajal Aggarwal, Vadivelu and Sathyaraj in pivotal roles. AR Rahman had composed music for this flick with GK Vishnu as its cinematographer and Ruben as its editor. Vijay is currently busy with the AR Murugadoss directorial which has not been titled yet. The film is being bankrolled by Sun Pictures on a huge budget. It is believed that the project is being planned as a Diwali 2018 release. It might even come earlier if completed on time. Otherwise, the makers will look for a very good festival release date. Soon after wrapping up the current project. It was recently revealed that Suriya’s project won’t be a simple film and it requires lot of research Among several upcoming projects in Kollywood, the highly anticipated film after Rajinikanth’s 2.0 is Suriya’s next yet-untitled project with maverick filmmaker Selvaraghavan.
Teaming up for the first time, the duo has already set the anticipation bar high and audiences are eagerly looking forward to the film. While Rakul Preet Singh was originally considered for the leading lady’s role, it has now been learnt that the project may also feature Sai Pallavi in the lead. Reports suggest that the film will have two female leads, and both will be paired with Suriya, who will be seen in a brand new avatar. Last seen in Karthi’s Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru, it is believed that Rakul was signed on for the project a while ago. Dream Warrior Pictures, the company that produced Theeran, is also bankrolling the Suriya-Selvaraghavan project and they’ve said to have signed Rakul for a two-film deal. Sai Pallavi is said to be the latest addition as she’s currently the toast of the town after a huge success with Telugu film Fidaa this year and signing Dhanush’s Maari 2. Pallavi is yet to officially sign the dotted line but reliable sources have confirmed that she's already given her nod. The regular shooting of the project will commence from March 2017, and in the interim Selva will complete his project with Santhanam. It was recently revealed that Suriya’s project won’t be a simple film and it requires lot of research. Selva, in an interview earlier this year, revealed that he had plans to work with Suriya soon after Kadhal Kondein, and the dream has been finally fulfilled after a decade. Suriya, it is believed, after Selva’s project might team up with Gautham Menon. According to reliable sources, Gautham and Suriya had planned to work together soon after Singam 3. However, due to a prior commitment to Vignesh Shivan, he had to work start working on Thaana Serntha Kootam, which is gearing up for release. If reports doing the rounds in Tollywood are to be believed, Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi may be roped in to play the villain in Ram Charan Teja’s upcoming film that will be helmed by director Boyapati Srinu.
The ace director, well known for etching out the best villain characters in his films, has one such role to offer for Vivek and now the ball is in the actor’s court. It needs to be seen if he would accept the offer or not. It may be mentioned here that Vivek Oberoi was first approached by director VV Vinayak to play the baddie in Chiranjeevi’s comeback film Khaidi No 150 but he turned it down citing date issues. The star then went on to share the screen space with Ajith in Vivegam. Vivek Oberoi’s first Telugu film was the Ram Gopal Varma directorial Raktha Charithra, which was release in 2010. He also played an important role in its sequel. He was last seen playing the baddie in the Telugu version of Vivegam. Boyapati Srinu is currently busy with the groundwork of his Ram Charan project and is assembling his star cast. Reports suggest that Ramya Krishnan has bagged a prominent role in the film. It is worth noting here that she had shared the screen space with Ram Charan’s dad Chiranjeevi in several movies earlier but this is the first time she will be seen in the young star’s movie. Anu Emmanuel has been roped in to play the female lead opposite Ram Charan in this untitled film. Reports also add that the project would go on to the floors later next year. Ram Charan is currently busy with the Sukumar directorial Rangasthalam and this film will hit the silver screens in March next year. ‘Irumbu Thirai’ is scheduled for a Pongal release. Vishal's next major outing is action-thriller Irumbu Thirai, which is gearing up for Pongal 2018 release. The film marks his first collaboration with Action King Arjun, who plays the antagonist.
The film's director Mithran has revealed that Vishal was more interested in playing the villain after he heard the script. "Vishal wanted to do the villain role in Irumbu Thirai when I pitched the subject to him to produce it under his banner. He was so impressed with the plot that he not only agreed to bankroll it, but also opted to do the powerful baddie character,” the film’s director Mithran told Deccan Chronicle. Mithran revealed that the original plan was to rope in some other hero if Vishal agrees to produce the film. “He loved the villain role and evinced interest to portray it. Then I had to convince him that he does the lead protagonist and made changes accordingly. The film has a military backdrop and from an ordinary man’s character, I made Vishal’s role a military man.” Samantha Akkineni plays Vishal’s love interest in the film, which has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. On working with the Sandakozhi actor, the director said: “He gave me a lot of freedom and without hesitation he was providing me the kind of things I wanted during its making. It is he who suggested that we cast big actors and also rope in big technicians. He was more concerned about the outcome.” Vishal had taken many by surprise when he chose to contest in the RK Nagar bye-election in December. However, the actor’s nomination paper was rejected by the Returning Officer after two proposers alleged that their signatures had been forged. His decision to contest, however, had ruffled feathers in the industry, given that Vishal holds two key posts – that of Nadigar Sangam General Secretary and the President of the Tamil Nadu Film Producers’ Council. Filmmaker Cheran even went to the extent of staging a protest and demanded that he step down from the Producers’ Council post. APPARENTLY, NAYANTHARA IS BEING CONSIDERED BECAUSE OF HER STAR POWER AND HER SUCCESS IN AUTHOR-BACKED ROLE Last year's critically-acclaimed Kannada indie hit U-Turn, which featured Shraddha Srinath in the titular role, is all set to be remade in Tamil and the project might feature Samantha Akkineni or Nayanthara in the lead. While it was long announced that Samantha will play the leading lady in the film's Tamil and Telugu remakes, latest reports hint that she has been replaced by Nayanthara. The reason for Samantha's exit from the project is yet unknown but the makers are yet to make an official announcement.
The yet-untitled project is expected to roll from early next year. U-Turn, directed by Lucia fame Pawan Kumar, revolves around the mystery behind the death of motorists who die tragic deaths after breaking traffic rules on a particular flyover in Bengaluru. In January last year, Samantha watched the film in a special screening in Bengaluru and immediately gave her nod. It was believed that she was willing to produce the remake. However, ever since the announcement, there's been no development with regards to the project. A few months later, rumours made the rounds that Nithya Menen was brought on board in place of Samantha and the project was supposed to go on the floors last year. The latest update is that Nayanthara might come on board to play the lead role after Samantha reportedly chose to exit the film for reasons yet unknown. Apparently, Nayanthara is being considered because of her star power and her success in author-backed roles and woman-centric projects. Over the weekend, reports emerged that the remake will officially go on the floors from January 2018. Speaking to New Indian Express, director Pawan Kumar, who will helm the remake as well, shed more light on the development: "The film is in the pre-production stage and shooting will commence from January. We’re trying to make it a bigger film now that we have Samantha in the lead," he said. It'll be a busy 2018 for Samantha whose first major release will be Vishal's Irumbu Thirai. She also has the Savitri biopic, Mahanati, apart from Vijay Sethupathi's Super Deluxe and Sivakarthikeyan's yet-untitled Tamil project with Ponram. Actors Surya has wrapped up Vignesh Shivan’s Thaanaa Serndha Koottam and the film will release for Pongal. The actor’s next project – his 36th film, is with Selvaraghavan and will go to floors in January. The film is touted to be a Diwali release. Speculations are now on about his 37th film. It was expected that after the success of Karthi’s Theeram Adheegaram Ondru, Suriya may do a film with the film’s director H.Vinoth. However news is that he will join hands with Maanagaram maker Logesh Kanagaraj.
The film is said to be a supernatural thriller and is apparently titled Irumbu Kai Maayavi. The title is inspired from a British comic from the 60s and 70s called The Steel Claw which was translated in Tamil. The film will be a big budget venture and shoot will last 8 months. Official announcement awaited.
THE POSTER SHOWS ACTOR SHIVA DOING A REMARKABLE IMITATION OF OPS’S MEDITATION AT THE JAYALALITHAA MEMORIAL IN JANUARY.
Movie promotion is as much of an art as making the movie itself. And it seems the makers of Tamizh Padam 2.0 are ticking all the right boxes.
If you thought their dig at the infamous movie pirates Tamil Rockers in their first poster was hilarious, the team have just raised the bar with their second look poster. Taking its trademark parody culture to a new level, the poster features actor Shiva, the star of the comedy franchise, pulling an O Panneerselvam. Dressed in a crisp white shirt and veshti, Shiva sits meditating in front of a memorial, while a host of photographers click pictures of him in the background. The resemblance is unmistakable. Shiva looks exactly like Deputy Chief Minister OPS did, when he meditated at the Jayalalithaa memorial just before setting off an unprecedented rebellion in the ruling AIADMK, the dust of which is still to settle.
The second look poster has got people all over social media ROFLing, with the tweet by makers Y Not Studios getting over 500 retweets and over 1,500 likes within the first four hours.
And considering how much fun trolls and meme-makers had with the original OPS rebellion, it was inevitable that this poster would draw them all out again.
For the uninitiated, Tamizh Padam 2.0 is a sequel to the 2010 parody film starring Shiva and Disha Pandey, helmed by director CS Amudhan, who’s taking the reins this time around too.
The sequel, which was officially launched on Thursday, also reportedly stars Aishwarya Menon, Disha Pandey, Sathish, Santhana Bharathi, Manobala, R Sundarrajan, Nizhalgal Ravi and Chethan. The team’s first look poster set Twitter aflutter when it announced that Tamizh Padam 2.0 will release on May 25, 2018, and that there will be a ‘Tamil Rockers release’ the very next day. Poking fun at the heartburn the online pirates cause the industry by releasing all latest movies within days of their theatrical release, the first look poster called Tamil Rockers the film’s “official piracy partner”. |
