‘Jimmiki Kammal’ Sheril video is 2nd most-watched on YouTube India in 2017

As 2017 draws to a close, social media websites have started releasing the content that trended most on their platforms this year.

South Indian cinema has already made its mark on Twitter this year, with Mersal and Baahubali 2 being two of the top trends on the microblogging site. Now, it seems like it has made its mark on YouTube as well.

The performance by the students of the Indian School of Commerce dancing to the hit song ‘Jimikki Kammal’ was one of the most popular versions of the videos made on the song. Turns out, it was also one of the top trending videos on YouTube India in 2017.

The video propelled Sheril G Kadavan, a teacher, to instant fame, and went on to spur a turf war of sorts.
The ‘Jimikki Kammal’ performance by the students dressed in traditional Onam attire was the second most-watched video on YouTube, after ‘BB ke Vines – group study’.

A ‘Shape of You’ choreography by Kyle Hanagami, Kangana Ranaut's interview on ‘Aap Ki Adaalat’ and a stand-up piece by comedian Zakir Khan were some of the other videos on the list.

Some skits, rangoli design tutorials and mehendi design tutorials also made it to the top trends in India.
‘Jimikki Kammal’, a hit song from Mohanlal-starrer Velipadinte Pusthakam, was one of the most popular tracks in south India this year, and inspired a number of spin-offs and performances.

YouTube also released its annual Rewind video which shows the top trends and most popular videos and music videos from this year. Luis Fonsi and DY’s ‘Despacito’ as well as Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ feature in the videos.
