The film is believed to be the remake of a French film. Vikram, last seen on screen in action-thriller Irumugan, didn’t have a single release in 2017 even though he was shooting for three projects – Sketch, Dhruva Natchathiram and Saamy Square, the highly anticipated sequel to his 2003 blockbuster Saamy. The year also saw his daughter get married and that kept him out action for a brief while.
He was also busy putting together the perfect launch pad for his son Dhruv, who is making his acting debut with Varma, the Tamil remake of Arjun Reddy. Awaiting the release of Sketch on January 12, it is believed that Vikram has signed a new project in Kamal Haasan’s production Raaj Kamal Films and the film will be helmed by Rajesh M Selva. According to a Times of India report, the film will be a remake of a French flick. “The team had originally planned to announce this project on January 1, but since Vikram's father passed away on December 31, they have put off the announcement as a mark of respect to the actor.” The regular shooting will commence soon. Currently busy wrapping up Saamy Square, in which he returns as the foul-mouthed cop, Vikram will also finish the leftover portion of Gautham Menon’s Dhruva Natchathiram, in which he plays a secret agent out for revenge. Vikram is expected to commence shooting for Selva’s project from the summer of this year and will hopefully wrap this up by year-end. If everything goes as planned, Vikram might have three releases this year. There are also rumours that Dhruva Natchathiram is being planned as a trilogy. The film’s talkie portion should be completed by next month. The next four months will be spent on post-production and the film will release as planned later this year. The film was shot in key locations outside India, especially in Europe and the US. Originally planned with Suriya, who opted out after a fall out with Gautham Menon, Vikram was roped in as his replacement.
LOSE WEIGHT, GAIN WEIGHT, CHANGE YOUR BODY LANGUAGE? NO PROBLEM, SAYS VIKRAM.
Vikram's built look for Sketch, an upcoming Tamil thriller written and directed by Vijay Chander, has sent Twitter into a frenzy.
The film is expected to release in January this year, with the possibility of a clash with Suriya's film Thaana Serndha Kootam. Sketch also has Tamannaah and Sri Priyanka in lead roles.
Vikram, who won a National Award for Bala's Pithamagan, is known for his ability to change his looks and transform into the character. Though he has delivered hits playing the macho man in many of his films, his fans watch out for roles where the 51-year-old actor stuns the audience with his ability to change his body, voice, and gestures.
Here's a peek at Vikram's different looks over the years. Sethu: Vikram's big breakthrough film had him play a thug who becomes obsessed with a woman, even threatening to kill her if she doesn't reciprocate. He suffers brain damage in a fight and is institutionalised. The film saw the actor lose weight, shave his head and change his body language.
Kasi: The Tamil remake of the Malayalam film Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njanum, Vikram played a visually impaired singer/poet in this Vinayan directorial. The actor trained hard for the role, practising rolling his eyeballs up so that only the whites of his eyes could be seen. He reportedly practised so hard that his perfect vision changed after the film and he had to wear glasses.
Pithamagan: Vikram played the role of a reclusive man who is brought up in a graveyard and hasn't socialised with anyone. He grunted the few dialogues he had in the film and most of the communication was done through his gestures and body language, not in the least how he moved his facial muscles.
Anniyan: Vikram played three roles in this Shankar film about a man with multiple personality disorder. In one, he was Ambi, a meek Brahmin lawyer, in another he was Remo, a model, and the third one, he was a vigilante serial killer called Anniyan. The Anniyan look with the unique way in which he moved his eyes won him praise.
Deiva Thirumagal: Based on the Hollywood film I am Sam, this AL Vijay directorial had Vikram play the role of a father with the intellectual ability of a six-year-old. The film received mixed reviews and Vikram's performance, too, faced criticism from certain quarters.
I: Pairing up again with Shankar, this film was a thriller about a bodybuilder who goes on a spree to extract revenge from the people who turned him into a "monster". Vikram's two looks from the film – a bright-eyed bodybuilder with big muscles and a man suffering from muscular dystrophy – were startling even if the film itself received mixed reviews.
Iru Mugan: Vikram played the hero and the antagonist in this film. The villain, Love, was a stylish queer person. While the negative characterisation adds to stereotypes about the LGBTQI community in cinema, Vikram's Love was far more dignified than the average representation.
Vikram is, without a doubt, among the most versatile actors of his generation. Among women actors, the Malayalam industry's Parvathy is known to be quite the chameleon.
![]() Samantha was Shankar’s first choice to pair up with Vikram in Ai. Unfortunately, the actress was down with a skin infection that she had to go for treatment and hence lost the opportunity. Looks like she will be regaining the opportunity to pair up with Vikram soon. Yes, according to sources, the star has agreed to join hands with Goli Soda fame director Vijay Milton and this film will start rolling from June this year. It is said that talks are on with Samantha to play the female lead in this film and she is keen on working with Vikram. ![]() itzchennai.com joins Vikram’s fans world-over in wishing the star a very happy birthday. Born on April 17th, 1966, Vikram entered the film industry in the year 1990 with En Kadhal Kanmani and since then has acted in several films including the critically acclaimed Sethu and Pithamagan and commercial films like Kandasamy, Anniyan, Gemini, Dhill and Dhool. He is currently expecting the release of Ai, a magnum opus directed by Shankar and produced by Aascar Films. Vikram is touted to act in Vijay Milton’s film next and this project will commence in June this year, state sources. An official announcement is expected to be made soon. ![]() For the audio launch of Dasavatharam, the film’s producer ensured that Hollywood star Jackie Chan was the guest of honour. This worked out very well for the film’s promotion and the rest is history. Now, Aascar Ravichandran is planning to bring in Hollywood star and former Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, as the chief guest for the audio launch of Vikram’s Ai. Sources say that talks are on to bring in Arnold for this function as Ai is a film based on a bodybuilder. Since Arnold is a bodybuilder and winner of the Mr Universe title, it is felt that he would be the apt person. |
