Is this when Rajinikanth - Akshay Kumar's 2.0 is releasing? The much delayed film 2.0 starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar is almost ready to hit the screens. After missing earlier release deadlines due to changes in the film and incomplete VFX work, the makers now finally know when they will be able to present their ambitious project to the audience. According to reports, there are two tentative dates that the makers have in mind.
A big film like 2.0 deserves a big release and therefore, the team is looking at two big upcoming holiday weekends – 15 August, 2018 or Diwali 2018, says a report on Bollywood Hungama. Interestingly, on both these dates, while the film will enjoy a long weekend, it will not be without competition. Akshay Kumar’s Gold has already been locked for the Independence Day weekend by we have Aamir Khan – Katrina Kaif – Amitabh Bachchan starrer Thugs Of Hindostan set for a Diwali release. As reported earlier, director Shankar is overseeing the post-production work of his ambitious project 2.0 starring Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson. The film which was shot on a mammoth budget of Rs 400 crore, went on floors two years ago.
Deccan Chronicle reports that the makers of 2.0 are planning to hold a grand event in Hyderabad in the third week of February, to launch the Telugu teaser of the film. Simultaneously, the Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam teasers will be out on YouTube. The makers want to make this event a star-studded affair, and are planning to invite several bigwigs from the film industry. Reportedly, the makers have decided to invite Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi, Malayalam superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty, as well as some big names from Bollywood. Earlier, it was announced that 2.0 will release worldwide on April 14. However, according to latest reports, we hear that the release has been pushed to April 27. The final release date is expected to be announced at the grand event in Hyderabad. Rajinikanth’s sci-fi thriller 2.0 will have its digital premiere on Amazon Prime Video. The movie, also starring Bollywood star Akshay Kumar in the role of an antagonist, is a sequel to the 2010 blockbuster Enthiran. Shankar is returning as the director for the film, which is being produced by Lyca Productions.
According to a statement, the subscribers of the streaming giant will access to watch the film in multiple languages such as Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Vijay Subramaniam, Director, Content, Amazon Prime Video, said, “With this momentous deal, Amazon Prime Video further enhances its robust Bollywood and regional content library. “Amazon Prime Video is happy to join hands with Lyca Productions for the exclusive streaming rights for this mega blockbuster film. Both, Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar are phenomenal actors with an unbelievable fan following that will soon get the chance to stream the sequel of Rajnikanth’s memorable movie on their favourite streaming device,” he added. Amy Jackson, Sudanshu Pandey, Adil Hussain and Kalabhavan Shajohn complete the supporting cast. Academy Award-winning composer A.R. Rahman has composed the music for the project, which is said to be India’s most expensive film with a budget of Rs. 450 crore. Subaskaran Allirajah, Chairman of the Lyca Group, said, “Making movies is my passion. We are here to produce great movies. I hope these investments will take Tamil and Indian cinema to world-class standards.” The film is expected to hit theatres in Summer next year. THE SHOOTING OF THE FILM HAS BEEN STALLED DUE TO PROBLEMS ALLEGEDLY CREATED BY THE ACTOR-COMEDIAN VADIVELU. In his illustrious career, Vadivelu is known for many memorable roles but his portrayal of twin brothers Pulikesi and Ukraputhan in 2006 historic comedy Imsai Arasan 23rd Pulikesi is undoubtedly one of his best performances.
The film was directed by Chimbudeven who was an associate of director Shankar and bankrolled by Shankar. A decade since the release of the film, its sequel titled 24am Pulikesi went on the floors last August but has now come to a halt. The shooting of the film has been stalled due to problems allegedly created by the actor-comedian Vadivelu. Makers have stalled the shooting due to the non-cooperation of the actor on various issues like costumes, selection of supporting actors and hike in remuneration. After the film went on the floors, the actor allegedly increased his remuneration demanding a huge sum, which was solved by the makers. Later, the actor had a new condition that the film should not have a huge star cast, rejecting around 25 names and insisted on using his personal costume designer in the film. The team has shot only for 10 days. Makers decided to spend lavishly and truly make the sequel a notch better than the first part. A huge period set worth lakhs was erected in Chennai’s EVP studio where some key scenes in the first schedule were to be shot and now, the stalling of the shoot could lead to a loss for the makers. While the team was resolving the issues one by one, the actor was creating more. Following this, Shankar who is currently busy with the laborious post-production works of Magnum opus 2.0, has approached the Producer’s Council which has forwarded the complaint to the Nadigar Sangam to resolve the issue. The sequel is being produced by director Shankar along with Lyca Productions which is currently producing Shankar's magnum opus 2.0. DESPITE BEING HER DEBUT FILM IN TAMIL, SAI PALLAVI WILL BE SEEN DUBBING IN HER OWN VOICE. Actor-filmmaker-choreographer Prabhudheva released the official trailer for director AL Vijay’s upcoming film Karu which marks the debut of Premam beauty Sai Pallavi in Tamil. Sai Pallavi’s entry in Tamil had been long awaited by her fans in the state. Vijay has definitely made a very good impression on the minds of the audience with the trailer. The trailer begins by quoting the definition of abortion as the ‘expulsion of a foetus before it is able to survive independently.’
Karu is a woman-centric horror drama that’ll touch upon the issue of abortion. Recently during the media interaction, Vijay opened up about the film and said Karu focuses on the bond between a mother and her four-year-old daughter. The film which will also release in Telugu as Kanam, stars Naga Shaurya and RJ Balaji apart from Sai Pallavi. Bankrolled by Lyca Productions, it has Nirav Shah for cinematography and Antony for the edits. Despite being her debut film in Tamil, Sai Pallavi will be seen dubbing in her own voice. She initially appeared in an uncredited role along with Kangana Ranaut in Dhaam Dhoom. She was supposed to debut in Tamil with Mani Ratnam's last outing Kaatru Veliyidai, but after shooting for a couple of days she stepped out of the movie. She was brought on board for the remake of the hit Malayalam film Charlie, with Madhavan in the lead, but the project has been shelved for the time being. Later she also opted out of Vikram’s film Sketch directed by Vijay Chandra citing date issues. She recently made her Telugu debut with Sekhar Kammula’s romantic comedy, Fidaa, which was critically acclaimed and garnered good reviews. Sai Pallavi is current busy with Nani's next MCA (Middle-Class Abbayi) which is scheduled to hit the theatres this December. She will start work on Maari 2 starring Dhanush soon. Balaji Mohan who is going to helm Maari 2 has assured fans that she will have a very strong role in the film. THE STAR SAID THAT SUCH A CLASH IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN AND WILL BE AVERTED. There have been enough speculations about Akshay Kumar’s Padman and 2.0releasing for the Republic Day next year. However, the star has said that such a clash is not going to happen and will be averted. While Padman is his home production produced by his wife Twinkle Khanna, 2.0 is a Shankar directorial that is being bankrolled by Lyca Productions. Incidentally, Akshay Kumar plays the baddie in 2.0 which has Rajinikanth playing the lead role.
On both his films heading for release around the same time, Akshay Kumar said that it wouldn’t be a good idea for such a clash to happen and it will be averted at any cost. The star went on to add that Padman’s release will depend on when 2.0 hits the screens. Being the producer of Padman, Akshay Kumar said that he can reschedule the release date but that can’t be done for 2.0 as the release plan depends on director Shankar and the producers. It may be noted that Akshay Kumar plays the male lead in Padman while in 2.0,he will be seen as the antagonist. He will be appearing in 12 different get-ups for his role as an evil scientist in 2.0. 2.0, one of the most anticipated films in Indian cinema, is made on a budget of Rs. 450 crores by A Subashkaran of Lyca Productions. The film has Amy Jackson playing the female lead with Rajinikanth as the hero and Akshay Kumar as the villain. Scoring the music for this flick is AR Rahman with Nirav Shah being the cameraman and Anthony the editor. This magnum opus has some of the best technicians associated with it, which has raised the expectation levels. It may be recollected that 2.0 is the sequel to Endhiran, which was a blockbuster hit. |
