THE 1981 BLOCKBUSTER DIRECTED BY GN RANGARAJAN IS ALL SET TO BE RE-RELEASED IN DIGITAL FORMAT. The concept of re-releasing movies has become a trend, especially after Sivaji Ganesan's Karnan was re-released after 48 years, after which Superstar Rajinikanth’s blockbuster movie Basha hit the screen in February with a resounding response from the audience. The next film in the list is a Kamal Haasan classic. His 1981 blockbuster Meendum Kokila directed by GN Rangarajan is all set to be back in a new avatar and re-released in digital format. The film will be digitally enhanced for the re-release. Bankrolled by Deva of Darwin Pictures, the digitally enhanced version will be released on December 15. Also starring Sridevi and Deepa in lead roles, this movie won the Filmfare Best Actress Award, which was awarded to Sridevi. The movie has music by Ilaiyaraaja and screenplay and dialogues by Ananthu. Recently, Vetri Vizha, considered to be one of the biggest blockbusters of Kamal Hassan's career, completed a 175-day run at the box office after it was digitally remastered and re-released. Directed by Prathap K Pothan, Vetri Vizha was first released in 1989. Kamal Haasan is soon expected to recommence work on Sabash Naidu, the multi-lingual comedy which was stalled last year after he fell from the stairs of his office and fractured his leg. Sabash Naidu is a spin-off on the popular character Balram Naidu from Dasavatharam. Kamal, who recently made his television debut as the host of Tamil reality show Bigg Boss, also has Indian 2 with director Shankar in his kitty, and the project will roll from next year. The project will only go on the floors after the filmmaker is completely relieved of 2.0 while Kamal is expected to wrap up Vishwaroopam 2. The pre-production of Indian 2, rumoured to be made on a budget of Rs 200 crore, will begin from February 2018. |
