Video - Will not endorse any brand or act in ads: Sivakarthikeyan at 'Velaikkaran' audio launch12/4/2017 THE ACTOR SAID THAT HE'D LEARNT A LOT FROM THE FILM DIRECTED BY MOHAN RAJA. The audio launch of Sivakarthikeyan's Velaikkaran which will mark the debut of Malayalam actor Fahadh Faasil in the Tamil industry, took place on Sunday. The film, directed by Mohan Raja, also has Nayanthara, Sneha, RJ Balaji, Prakash Raj and others in the cast. Expected to release on December 22, Velaikkaran is among the most anticipated films of the year. Mohan Raja's last release was the blockbuster Thani Oruvan with his brother Jayam Ravi and Arvind Swami playing a cat and mouse game that had the audience enthralled. The film was also remade in Telugu with Ram Charan in the lead and Arvind Swami reprising his original role. Speaking at the launch, Sivakarthikeyan declared that he will not endorse any brand or act in any ad henceforth because of the questions the film had raised in him. Mohan's Thani Oruvan had a villain from the corporate sector and the film provided an insight on how money controls everything in society. It appears that Velaikkaran, too, will be connected to the same theme. Watch: Velaikkaran has five songs in the track list, all of them composed by Anirudh. All five are available on Saavn.
Karuthuvanlaam Galeejam is an upbeat song that has a "kuthu" effect. Vaa Velaikkara is a chant-like song that hails the "velaikkaaran". Idhayane is a romantic melody. Iraiva is an interesting fusion song. Ezhu Velaikkara is a fast, inspiring number that calls for revolution. Sivakarthikeyan is Kollywood's fastest rising star. His last film Remo with Keerthy Suresh, though panned by critics, was a huge hit. Anirudh had composed the music for this film as well.
Akshay Kumar's Padman and Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam 2 will clash at the box office on Republic Day 2018.
Akshay Kumar's Padman might have avoided box-office clash with Rajinikanth's 2.0, but Khiladi Kumar will now lock horns with Kamal Haasan on Republic Day 2018.
Kamal's Vishwaroopam 2 has been in the making for a long time, but the shooting was put on hold for some time due to his other work commitments. And now the actor has resumed the shooting of the film. The last schedule of the film is being shot in Chennai. Trade Analyst Ramesh Bala took to Twitter to share the news and wrote, "Ulaganayagan @ikamalhaasan has resumed Vishwaroopam2's final leg of shoot in #Chennai recently. Movie will release for #RepublicDay2018. Trailer will release sometime in Dec."
KEERTHY PLAYS SAVITRI IN 'NADIGAIYAR THILAGAM'. Keerthy Suresh is fast emerging as one of the finest heroines in the film industry, and the roles that she has been bagging proves this beyond doubt. The young actor is busy with a slew of films in Tamil and Telugu, and the most challenging role that she has ever done happens to be the role she plays in the bilingual Mahanati / Nadigayar Thilgam, in which she is playing legendary actor Savitri.
Speaking about the film, Savitri said, “90% of the audience only knows Savitri through her onscreen image. To bring out that difference was the tough part. It’s been a genuinely challenging experience to play Savitri. There are a few sequences from her original films; we have done a scene from Maya Bazaar and a portion of a song from the film. I had to work hard because I cannot use my imagination and have to be completely in her shoes. She was a person who would give 100 expressions in 10 seconds. The way her bold eyes and her lips express an emotion — it is impractical to replicate her precisely. But I wanted to give my best. I have more than 100 costumes (changes) in this film. Savitri’s appearance also changes with age in the film, so we had to go in for a makeover at each stage.” Directed by Nag Ashwin, the film has a plethora of stars in the cast including Mohan Babu, Dulquer Salmaan, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Vijay Deverakonda, Shalini Pandey and Prakash Raj in pivotal roles. It may be noted here that Dulquer plays Savitri’s husband actor Gemini Ganesan in the film, which is being bankrolled by Vyjayanthi Movies. While this film’s release date is yet to be announced, Keerthy Suresh’s will have two film releases this Sankaranthi – Suriya’s Thaana Serntha Kootam and Pawan Kalyan’s Agnathavasi. Mollywood THE 1981 BLOCKBUSTER DIRECTED BY GN RANGARAJAN IS ALL SET TO BE RE-RELEASED IN DIGITAL FORMAT. The concept of re-releasing movies has become a trend, especially after Sivaji Ganesan's Karnan was re-released after 48 years, after which Superstar Rajinikanth’s blockbuster movie Basha hit the screen in February with a resounding response from the audience. The next film in the list is a Kamal Haasan classic. His 1981 blockbuster Meendum Kokila directed by GN Rangarajan is all set to be back in a new avatar and re-released in digital format. The film will be digitally enhanced for the re-release. Bankrolled by Deva of Darwin Pictures, the digitally enhanced version will be released on December 15. Also starring Sridevi and Deepa in lead roles, this movie won the Filmfare Best Actress Award, which was awarded to Sridevi. The movie has music by Ilaiyaraaja and screenplay and dialogues by Ananthu. Recently, Vetri Vizha, considered to be one of the biggest blockbusters of Kamal Hassan's career, completed a 175-day run at the box office after it was digitally remastered and re-released. Directed by Prathap K Pothan, Vetri Vizha was first released in 1989. Kamal Haasan is soon expected to recommence work on Sabash Naidu, the multi-lingual comedy which was stalled last year after he fell from the stairs of his office and fractured his leg. Sabash Naidu is a spin-off on the popular character Balram Naidu from Dasavatharam. Kamal, who recently made his television debut as the host of Tamil reality show Bigg Boss, also has Indian 2 with director Shankar in his kitty, and the project will roll from next year. The project will only go on the floors after the filmmaker is completely relieved of 2.0 while Kamal is expected to wrap up Vishwaroopam 2. The pre-production of Indian 2, rumoured to be made on a budget of Rs 200 crore, will begin from February 2018. IN ALL PROBABILITY, THE FILM WILL GO ON THE FLOORS IN 2018. Here is the news every movie buff has been waiting forever since Baahubali: The Conclusion released in April this year! Yes, director SS Rajamouli has revealed in an interview to Variety about the next two projects for which he would be wielding the megaphone for.
The director revealed that the first project that he will be directing would be for Danayya’s DVV Entertainments banner. One of the popular production houses in Tollywood, Danayya had bankrolled films such as Varudu, Cameraman Ganga Tho Rambabu, Julayi, Nayak and Ninnu Kori. His current project is the highly anticipated Mahesh Babu starrer Bharath Ane Nenu which is being helmed by Koratala Siva. The director, however, did not disclose anything else about the project including the language it is to be made in and the star cast. In all probability, the film will go on the floors in 2018. His next would be bankrolled by KL Narayana who has produced films such as Kshana Kshanam, Hello Brother, Dongaata and Santosham. Mahesh Babu has been roped in to play the lead role in this project and the shooting is expected to commence in 2019. With the director disclosing two of his upcoming projects, all speculation about his next film have come to an end. SS Rajamouli, the most successful director in Indian cinema, came up with the magnum opus, the Baahubali franchise, which turned out to be a colossal hit. Baahubali: the Conclusion went on to collect over Rs. 1600 crore at the worldwide box office. He made his debut in Tollywood with Student No 1 and went on to direct blockbusters such as Simhadri, Eega, Magadheera, Maryada Ramanna etc. His last two films, Baahubali: the Beginning and Baahubali: the Conclusion has made him one of the most wanted directors in India. Bilinguals in south Indian cinema are not a new phenomenon. Even though the four major languages of the south are distinct and have their own scripts, there are many similarities among them. The popularity of stars from one state spills over to others and actors, especially women who play the heroine, have for long worked across industries. Further, for several years, Madras (now Chennai), used to be the centre where most south Indian films were made. The Tamil and Telugu industries, especially, are closely connected and many films have been made in both languages simultaneously, right from the '50s. Why bilingual? Of late, with expanding budgets, the explosion of social media, and the multiplex culture, bilinguals have become increasingly common. The more number of people the film is made for, the better the returns. Besides, a vast majority of these big budget films are set in urban areas with universal themes. Culturally, there isn't much variation that the filmmakers need to make in the scripts for the different films. Characters can sport the same look and have similar lifestyles without looking "off". In the recent bilingual release Solo, for instance, the stories are not restricted by place. The action shifts from one place to another and is not bound by cultural specificities. The film has been made in Tamil and Malayalam - the overarching themes being love, betrayal, revenge, and deception, the responses to the film are not likely to be radically different between the two audiences. Before Solo's release came the AR Murugadoss thriller Spyder which was made in Telugu and Tamil. With Mahesh Babu and Rakul Preet in lead roles, the film had a massive release in all three states. Even though this was Mahesh Babu's first Tamil film, the Tamil audience was already familiar with him. Besides, AR Murugadoss has given blockbusters with top actors from Kollywood and is an established name in the industry. Prakash Raj, who is well-known in the southern film industries made Idolle Ramayana in Kannada and Telugu (Mana Oori Ramayanam) and also starred in the lead role. Director Alphonse Puthren of Premam fame made his debut with the bilingual Neram which had Nivin Pauly and Nazriya in the lead roles. While the lead cast is likely to be the same, filmmakers may change the supporting actors, especially the comedian. This is because their appeal may be limited to their respective audiences unlike that of the big stars. Will it work across the board? However, bilinguals run the risk of looking too generic. It's impossible to make say, Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum or Oru Kidayin Karunai Manu as a bilingual because these films are so rooted in their social milieu. The landscape, the dialect spoken by the characters, the incongruities of their behaviour, even just how everybody in the film looks - it cannot be easily adapted to another culture. A remake can certainly be made, in different locations and with different actors, but the film will not work merely by changing the language. The ensemble cast in a bilingual usually features actors from across industries so they hold an appeal to different audiences. The disadvantage of this, however, is that many a time, they appear miscast and the unfamiliarity with the language sticks up as a sore point. This is a criticism that has been leveled against several films, including the latest release Solo. Moreover, each industry has a certain sensibility which has been shaped by the history of its cinema. Making a bilingual while paying heed to this is a difficult ask. Already, even for the release of dubbed versions, we see filmmakers deliberately including sequences that they believe are necessary for the film to appeal to the "other" audience. Exaggerated fight scenes or "item" numbers may be included because that's the norm in an industry that has the big monies.
Even though the US and the UK make films in English, the ones made in Hollywood and Britain are vastly different. It's not just the accent, it's everything - from cultural representations to even the sense of humour. When it comes to India, with its immensely diverse population, it's not always possible to hit the right note when you are making a film for two different cultures. While the audience may expand, the realm of ideas for subjects becomes narrower. One understands that films need to make money for the industry to survive and thrive but hopefully, this trend will not restrict big budget filmmakers from exploring subjects closer home. As Twitter taught Shabana Azmi recently, upma and poha are not one and the same even if they may share similarities. If you have missed out on some tidbits from the movie industry, we bring you a few quickies so you can brush up on what's been up in tinsel town!

One of the factors which the team has been holding in is the name of the music director of the movie. A large section of the audience is expecting Anirudh to return and collaborate with Dhanush due to the massive success they had tasted with the music of Maari. Our sources tell us that after a long gap of 9 years, Dhanush is expected to collaborate with Yuvan Shankar Raja to score the music for his film. Yaaradi Nee Mohini was the last time the two worked together on a movie, though Dhanush did sing a couple of songs for Yuvan in the meantime.
